“God is proclaimed through the encounter between persons, with care for their history and their journey. Because the Lord is not an idea, but a living Person: his message is passed on through simple and authentic testimony, by listening and welcoming, with joy which radiates outward.”

Learn about the Faith as a Family
Mother Seton parish has a subscription to FORMED.ORG.  This is an excellent resource for education in the Catholic faith!  At this site, you will find streaming videos, movies, audio talks, and e-books all available.

Resources include the popular Catholicism Series videos by Bishop Robert Barron, and excellent movies on Catholic saints for family viewing!! To start, simply create a login credential (user name and password) using our parish code GVWPTX.

Our Mission
It is our hope that as the children come to know Christ, they will begin to appreciate more fully the Catholic Faith as well as develop an ongoing and lasting relationship with Christ.

We maintain that parents/guardians are their children's primary instructors of faith. We consider our role, working with your children, a true privilege.

Our goal is to allow the encounter with Christ to happen through an understanding of our Catholic Faith. Scripture and Doctrine provide the basis of our faith that is lived out through family participation in sacrament, liturgy, and apostolic action.

The following objectives will enable all of us to make our goal a reality:

-The School of Religion personnel are supporters and enablers to parents in their responsibility of being the primary eductors for their children.

-The School of Religion will strive to incorporate Gospel values in the daily lives of our children.

-The School of Religion will assist parents in the sacramental preparation of children.

First Reconciliation and First Eucharist:  Children are prepared by their parents and the Religious Education staff for the reception of the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist. Preparation for the sacraments is a two-year program, beginning in first grade.

Confirmation:  Preparation for Confirmation is a two-year process beginning in the 7th grade.  Students are expected to complete Community Ministry Projects, attend a retreat each of the two years, while continuing their faith journey.

Introduction to Sacraments Class ("ITS"):  A make-up class put together for children in Grades 3 - 5 (ITS A) and Grades 6 - 10 (ITS B) who, for whatever reason, have not as yet received the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation and Eucharist by the third grade.

Religious Education Catechists are Needed

Give children quality faith sharing time and prayer with Jesus! Every year our R.E. program relies on about 90 people of the parish to pass on the faith to our children as Religious Education Catechists. No prior experience is needed. None of our catechists has an advanced degree in teaching religion. Perhaps you don’t feel that your faith is strong, or deep enough. That’s okay. Time and again, new catechists marvel at how teaching has strengthened their own faith.
Perhaps you are intimidated about what to say or how to teach to a group of kids you don’t know at all. Not to worry. We will orient you, and you will have a wonderful, user friendly textbook and lesson plans to use. There are a variety of resources in the School of Religion office at your disposal with suggestions and help for running each class.

Many new catechists sign up to teach with a friend; two sets of hands are always better than one. Also, when one of you can’t make it to class, there is always the other who can be there.

What should you expect if you sign up?
All new catechists attend orientation sessions held just before classes begin in the fall. You will receive a teacher’s guide for the textbook of the particular grade that you signed up for, and a syllabus which suggests which chapter to cover for each of the classes during the year. Sometimes the catechists of a particular grade will plan their classes together.

The School of Religion office has numerous resources for craft projects, ideas for games, storybooks, prayer books and audiovisual materials to support your lesson plans. A good number of catechists have had a few years of experience teaching, and are more than happy to share tips and suggestions. Like anything else, once you get started you will get the hang of it, and learn what works and what doesn’t for your particular class.
Parents who sign up to volunteer for religious education receive a discount as well.

Offer your example and your time to learn about Christ with the children!

Prayer of Jesus

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation. But deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
